The World – The Americas
The American security services are preparing to confront rallies supporting outgoing President Donald Trump in the capitals of the fifty US states.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has warned police agencies of possible armed protests in all state capitals, from today until the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on January 20, which will be fueled by Trump supporters who believe in rigging the elections.
Among the states that have mobilized their National Guard to enhance security are Michigan, Virginia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Washington, while Texas has closed the state Congress building from today until the day of the inauguration.
Thousands of armed National Guard members are now deployed in the streets of Washington, in an unprecedented show of force in the American capital, and visits to a number of famous landmarks across the country will be banned in the coming days.
