“The F-15C Eagle fighter was found, and his death has been confirmed,” the 48th Fighter Wing, in a statement posted on Twitter, said.
The statement added: “This is a tragic loss for the 48th Fighter Wing members, and we express our deepest condolences to the family of the pilot and the 493th Fighter Squadron.”
The 48th Fighter Wing said that the US military would not reveal the pilot’s name until all his relatives were informed of his death.
The Pentagon reported, earlier Monday, that a F-15C fighter plane was crashed in the North Sea off the coast of northeast England, confirming that the fate of the pilot is unknown and without mentioning the cause of the crash.
British media reported that the plane was carrying out a routine training mission with one pilot on board.
