concept of fasting

Fasting in the language is abstaining from something, so we say a person is abstaining from talking, that is, he does not speak, and abstaining from food, that is, he does not eat. Glory be to Him, whereby the Muslim observes the conditions that God Almighty has imposed on the fasting person, and this concept is agreed upon by all the four schools of thought.

The legality of fasting

Fasting was made obligatory on Muslims in the month of Ramadan in the second year of migration, and this is proven in the Qur’an and Sunnah, so God Almighty says in the Noble Qur’an: [ البقرة: 183]

Ruling and types of fasting

  • Fasting of supererogatory prayers: Its ruling is a Sunnah, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, and the six days of Shawwal.
  • Vow fasting: It is obligatory when a Muslim vows to fast one or several days.
  • Obligatory fasting: It is the fasting of the month of Ramadan, as it is considered an obligation on Muslims.

Social benefits of Ramadan fasting

the system

Fasting teaches the Muslim order, and teaches him justice and equality, in addition to it increases the sentiment of compassion among Muslims; Because they rush to charity, and race to do good, and thus society is protected from evils and temptations.

Mercy and generosity

When a rich Muslim feels his hungry, poor Muslim brother, his spirit rises and his heart becomes softer, more tender and sympathetic to the poor, and he becomes generous, as the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, indicated that charity in the month of Ramadan is one of the best alms that a Muslim can give.

Adapting to change

In this month, the Muslim person learns how to adapt to change. Ramadan is the month of change, even in unseen matters. Because worship requires patience, in addition to the fact that benevolence is a condition of fasting, when the month of Ramadan ends, a person will have changed his morals, behaviors and qualities.

In the month of Ramadan, quarrels, disputes, and quarrels between people decrease, because it is the month of tolerance and the month of intimacy and love, as the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, urged that society be symbiotic and cooperative like a single family, and quarrels and disputes in married life and between children decrease.

I am fasting). [صحيح مسلم]So the Muslim himself avoids anger and nervousness, keeps away from fools and arrogant people, and avoids obscene speech.
