Russia plans to close its borders with China in order to combat the spread of the deadly Corona virus, it announced Thursday. The Russian Foreign Ministry also announced that starting from Thursday, the issuance of electronic visas to the Chinese will be suspended at transit centers in the Far East, in the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, and in St. Petersburg, the second city of the country that is highly popular with tourists.

Russia announced Thursday its intention to close its borders with China Which extends 4,250 km to combat the new Corona virus, which has killed at least 170 people.

“Today something has been signed and entered into force. Today we inform the whole world of the measures taken to close the borders in the far east,” the Russian news agency reported.

He did not give the Prime Minister any further details about the closing date, nor about whether the closure would also include the ports.

A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, starting Thursday, included suspending the issuance of electronic visas to the Chinese in the transit centers in the Far East, in the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad and in Saint Petersburg, the second city of the country that has received a large number of tourists.

The authorities also called on the Russians to refrain from any trip to China “unless it is absolutely necessary”.

On its territory, Moscow has not recorded any infection with the new Coronavirus since its outbreak from the Chinese city of Wuhan, which first appeared in December.

There are a large number of Chinese tourists and workers, in Russia, especially Siberia and the Far East. They mainly use Russian airports as well as crossing points to head to European countries.
