The State of Sudan is located in the continent of Africa, and its capital is the city of Khartoum, and one of its most famous cities is the city of Omdurman, which has the largest market in the country, and is considered the clearest city in expressing Sudan’s past history. The system of government in Sudan is a federal republic, and it gained its independence in 1956.[1] The area of ​​Sudan is 2,505,810 km², and it shares political and geographical borders with nine countries, namely Egypt, Chad, Congo, Kenya, Eritrea, Libya, Central Africa, Ethiopia, and Uganda. It also shares an eastern border with the Red Sea.[2]

  • Red Sea State: It is located on the northeastern side of the Sudanese lands, and shares borders with the state of Kassala and the Nile River State from the western side, and is bordered by the Red Sea from the eastern side, and its geographical area reaches 212,800 km². Its capital is Port Sudan.
  • Kassala State: It is located in the eastern side of Sudan, and shares borders with Eritrea from the eastern side, and is bordered by the Red Sea State from the northern side, and shares borders with Gedaref State from the southwestern side, and is bordered by both the Nile River and Khartoum states from the west, and its geographical area reaches to 42,282 km², and its capital is the city of Kassala.
  • Gedaref State: It is overlooked by the Nile River State from the north-east, bordered by Al-Jazeera and Khartoum from the west, and it borders with Ethiopia from the east, and the Blue Nile State overlooks it from the south, and its geographical area is 71,621.33 km², and its capital is the city of Gedaref.
  • The Northern State: It is located in the north of the Sudanese territory, and it shares borders with Egypt to the north, and is bordered by North Darfur and Libya from the west, and from the south it is bordered by North Kordofan State, and it shares eastern borders with the Nile River State, and its geographical area reaches 348,697 km², and its capital is the city of Dongola.
  • River Nile State: It is bordered on the north by Egypt, and the Red Sea State and Kassala State share with it the eastern borders. It is bordered by Khartoum State from the southern side, and it has a western border with the Northern State, and its area reaches 122,100 km², and its capital is the city of Damer.
  • Gezira State: Its geographical location is in the middle of the Sudanese lands, and it shares a northern border with the state of Khartoum, and is bordered by Sennar state from the south, as for the eastern side, it has borders with Gedaref state, and to the west it is bordered by the White Nile state, with an area of ​​about 25,549.2 km², and its capital is Wad Madani. .
  • Khartoum State: It is one of the states located in the middle of Sudan, and it has a northeastern border with the Nile River State, and is bordered by the Northern State from the northwest, and it shares with Gezira State, Gedaref State and Kassala State with borders from the east and southeast, and its area reaches 22,736 km², and its capital Al-Khortoom City.
  • Sennar State: It shares borders with Gezira State from the north, and has a southern border with Blue Nile State, and it has common borders with Ethiopia and Gedaref State from the eastern side, and from the west it has borders with White Nile State, with an area of ​​40,680 km², and its capital is the city of Singa.
  • Blue Nile State: It is a state that has a southeastern location in Sudanese lands, and it borders with Sennar state from the northeastern side, and is bordered by Ethiopia from the southeastern side, and its geographical area is about 808,000,000 acres, and its capital is the city of Damazin.
  • White Nile State: It is a central Sudanese state that shares borders with Khartoum State from the north, and is bordered by North Kordofan State from the western side, and it has borders with South Kordofan State from the southwest side, and shares eastern borders with Sennar and Al-Jazeera states, and its area is estimated at about 39,701 km², and its capital is the city of Rabk.
  • North Kordofan State: It shares borders with the following states: North Darfur State, White Nile State, Northern State, South Kordofan State, and Khartoum State. Its area reaches 190,840 km², and its capital is the city of El Obeid.
  • South Kordofan State: It has a common border with North Kordofan State, and it is bordered by the White Nile State with a northeastern border, and it shares a southern border with the Republic of South Sudan, and its capital is Kadugli.
  • North Darfur State: It shares borders with North Kordofan State from the northeast, and is bordered from the southeast by South Darfur State, and has a southwest border with West Darfur State, and is bordered to the north by the Northern State, and it has an eastern border with West Kordofan State, and is bordered to the west by Chad It covers an area of ​​approximately 290,000 km², and its capital is the city of El Fasher.
  • East Darfur State: It is a state that was established based on the Sudanese constitution in 2005 AD, and its capital is the city of El Daein.
  • Central Darfur State: It is a state that emerged according to the Sudanese constitution in 2005 AD, and its capital is the city of Zalingei.
  • West Darfur State: It is located in the west of the Republic of Sudan, and shares borders from the north with North Darfur State, and is bordered by South Darfur State from the eastern and southeast sides, and shares the southwestern and western borders with Chad, and its area is about 1531,682 km², and its capital is El Geneina.
  • South Darfur State: It is located in the southwestern side of Sudan, and forms one of the major Darfur states. It shares a northern border with North Darfur. It has borders with Western Bahr El Ghazal from the south, and is bordered by West Kordofan and South Kordofan from the eastern side. It shares a western border with West Darfur State, and it has a common border with Central Africa and Chad, and its geographical area is 27,300 km², and its capital is the city of Nyala.

Population environment in Sudan

The population of the Republic of Sudan, according to the statistics of the US Intelligence Agency in July of 2017, reached 37,345,935 people. The population consists of several ethnic groups, namely the Arabs, the Fallata, the Beja, the Fur, and the Nuba. Most of the population are Sunni Muslims, and there are fewer Christians. Both Arabic and English are the official languages ​​of Sudan.[5]
