news channel reported on Sunday that President “Macron” declared that the President of Belarus “Alexander Lukashenko” should step down, days after the European Union refused to recognize the legitimacy of the Belarusian president.

President Macron added that what is happening in Belarus is a crisis of power, an authoritarian power that cannot accept the logic of democracy, and is clinging to its position by force, and Lukashenko must go.

During his tour, the French president is to meet his Lithuanian counterparts Gitanas Nauseda and Latvian Eagles Levits, as well as Latvian Prime Minister Arturs Chrisjanis Karens.

President Macron will inspect the battalion of 300 French soldiers stationed at the Lithuanian base in “Rockla” as part of the enhanced NATO presence in the region.

Last Thursday, the European Union refused to recognize Lukashenko as president, despite the latter’s unexpected swearing in, due to his lack of “any democratic legitimacy,” according to EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell.

And the Union ministers decided in principle last month to impose sanctions on the regime in Belarus, but Cyprus rejected this decision, which requires a consensus until the bloc imposes similar sanctions on Turkey to force it to stop gas exploration in the waters of the Mediterranean island.

Since last August 9, tens of thousands have been demonstrating in the streets of Belarus to protest the result of the presidential elections, which Svetlana Tikhanovskaya claims to have won, while Lukashenko insists on winning a landslide victory in it.
