The virtue of Umrah

Umrah is considered one of the great deeds in Islam, as the hadiths of the Prophet indicated its virtue, including what was narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim in their Sahihs on the authority of Abu Hurairah – may God be pleased with him – that the Messenger of God – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – said: The one who is justified has no reward but Paradise.)[1] In addition to the hadith narrated by Al-Nasa’i in his Sahih on the authority of Abdullah bin Masoud – may God be pleased with him – that the Prophet – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – said: “Continue between Hajj and Umrah, for they remove poverty and sins, just as the bellows removes the impurities of iron, gold and silver, and an acceptable Hajj has no reward other than the Paradise).[2][3]

Performing Umrah

There are steps for performing the rituals of Umrah, and the following is a description of each step:[4]

  • Ihram: It is desirable to wash and apply perfume before entering Ihram, when all clothes are taken off, then the ghusl is like washing the impurity, and putting on the best available perfume on the head and beard. She said: (When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, wanted to enter the state of ihram, he would apply perfume with the best of what he could find, then I would see a streak of fat on his head and beard after that).[5] In fact, washing during Ihram is desirable for both men and women, even those who have given birth or menstruating women. The Messenger of God – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – ordered Asmaa Bint Umays to take a bath when she entered Ihram while she was in menstruation. , or praying two rak’ahs of the Sunnah ablution if the ihram is not at the time of the obligatory prayer, and after completing the prayer the ihram begins, so the pilgrim says: Verily, praise and grace are yours, and dominion is yours, and you have no partner), while the woman lowers her voice to the extent that those around her can hear, and in the event of fear that the ritual will not be completed due to any obstacle, it is permissible to stipulate the saying: It is not permissible to stipulate that the rituals are completed. Because the Messenger of God – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – did not order all people to make stipulations, but rather, Dabaa bint al-Zubayr was singled out for it. Because she became ihram while she was sick, and it is desirable to perform the Talbiyah a lot when changing conditions and times: such as night and day, ascending the mountain, and descending the valley. Because the Messenger of God – may God bless him and grant him peace – took a bath before entering it.
  • Tawaf: Upon reaching the Sacred Mosque, it is desirable to enter with the right foot, and to repeat the supplication for entering the mosque, for the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: (If one of you enters the mosque, let him say: O God, open the doors of your mercy for me).[6] Then head to the honorable Kaaba and receive the Black Stone with the right hand and kiss it. In order to avoid harming Muslims, and in the event of facing the Black Stone, the pilgrim says: (In the name of God, God is Greatest, O God, I believe in You, believe in Your Book, fulfill Your covenant, and follow the Sunnah of Your Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him), and then begin the circumambulation of the House, and recite the words of God Almighty: Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the hereafter, and save us from the torment of the Fire).[7] Between the Black Stone and the Yemeni Corner, and upon reaching the Yemeni Corner, one touches it without kissing, and one of the Sunnahs of Tawaf is to make the ritual ablution in all the circuits of the Tawaf. Sand is a fast walk with approaching steps, and after completing the circumambulation of seven circuits, the pilgrim advances to Abraham’s shrine, and recites the words of God Almighty:[8] Then pray two rak’ahs behind the shrine, in which Surat Al-Kafirun and Al-Ikhlas is recited after reciting Surat Al-Fatihah in both rak’ahs, then touching the Black Stone if possible.
  • السعي بين الصفا والمروة:بعد الانتهاء من الطواف يجب السعي بين الصفا والمروة، فيذهب المعتمر إلى الصفا ويقرأ هناك قول الله تعالى: (إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَائِرِ اللَّـهِ فَمَنْ حَجَّ الْبَيْتَ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَن يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا وَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ اللَّـهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ ),[9] Then he ascends Al-Safa until he sees the honorable Kaaba, and he faces it and makes supplications as he wants to supplicate, and he repeats the supplication of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as he used to say: except God alone, who fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and defeated the parties alone).[10] The supplication is repeated three times, then walking towards Marwah and running at the first green flag and returning to walking when passing the second green flag, and when Marwa arrives, the supplication and remembrance that was on Safa is repeated, and one step has been achieved in Sa’i, and the return to Safa is another path, and so on until it is completed. A seven-stroke quest.
  • Shaving and shortening: It is the last step of the rituals of Umrah, in which the hair of all the head is shaved or shortened for men, while women shorten an inch. It is worth mentioning that shaving is better than shortening; Because the Messenger – may God’s prayers and peace be upon him – preferred the shaving to pray for them three times, while he prayed for the shortened ones once, and after shaving or shortening the rituals of Umrah, the rituals of Umrah have been completed, and the Ihram is completely dissolved.

Prohibitions of Ihram

There are things that must be avoided when entering ihraam, and their act entails the ransom, and the ransom is defined as what is required for a prohibited act or neglect of an obligatory act, as in the saying of God Almighty:[11] It is worth noting that the ransom varies according to the prohibition that was committed, and the following is a statement of the prohibitions of Ihram:[12]

  • Shaving the hair, clipping the nails, using perfume, and directing oneself.
  • Sexual intercourse, and Vddah thicker.
  • Hunting, and his ransom is rewarded with the same.
  • The marriage contract, and the ransom is not required.
