washing up

It is mustahabb for the pilgrim when he comes to the meeqaat to purify and take a bath, and the woman also has to do ablution and bathe even if there is harm, such as if she is menstruating or postpartum. His Ihram clothes, and if it is not possible for the pilgrims to wash themselves at the meeqaat, then there is nothing wrong with them, and it is desirable that the ghusl be completed when the pilgrims arrive in Makkah Al-Mukarramah before performing the circumambulation, if they are able to do so.[١]

The pilgrim invokes the intention before starting the rituals of Umrah, then says in his tongue: It is stipulated when performing the Ihram that he says:[١]

The Talbiyah is one of the pillars of Umrah that is considered obligatory according to the Maki and the Hanafis, and a Sunnah according to the Shafi’is and the Hanbali schools, where the pilgrim says when performing the Talbiyah: The Talbiyah until he reaches Makkah, then enters the Sacred Mosque with his right foot forward and saying: (In the name of God, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of God, I seek refuge in God the Great and with His Noble Face and His Ancient Authority from the accursed Satan, O God, open for me the doors of Your mercy), where the pilgrim finishes the Talbiyah upon seeing the House and receiving stone.[٥][١]

Tawaf around the old house

The pilgrim interrupts the Talbiyah when starting the circumambulation, and begins his circumambulation of the Black Stone by touching and kissing it. When returning to it, if the pilgrim reaches the Yemeni corner – which is the corner that precedes the Black Stone – it is Sunnah for him to touch it without kissing. Where he approaches his steps and speeds up in walking, and it is possible for him to lie down during all the circumambulation, by taking out the right shoulder, and placing the two ends of the worn cloak on the left shoulder, and whenever he approaches what is between the Black Stone and the Yemeni Corner, he grows up saying: The torment of the Fire), and in the rest of his circumambulation, he reminds God of what he wills of remembrances and supplications.[٦]

Upon completing the seven circuits, the pilgrim performs the pilgrimage to cover his shoulders with a robe, then recite at the station of Ibrahim the words of God Almighty: (And take the station of Abraham as a prayer place).[٧] After the circumambulation, the pilgrim prays two rak’ahs behind the shrine of the Messenger of God Ibrahim, peace be upon him. In the first rak’ah after Al-Fatihah he recites Surat Al-Kafirun and in the second rak’ah Surat Al-Ikhlas, and if it is not possible for him to do so, he prays in any other mosque.[٦]

Sa’i between Safa and Marwa

The pilgrim runs between Al-Safa and Al-Marwah, and when he approaches Al-Safa, he stops saying the Almighty’s saying:[٨]without returning it again, followed by the following steps:[٩]

  • The pilgrim ascends to Safa, faces the Qiblah, and raises his hands with takbeer and praise, saying: (There is no god but God alone, without partner, to Him belongs the kingdom and His praise, and He is over all things powerful, there is no god but God alone, fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and defeated the parties alone), then supplicate, and repeat the dhikr three times.
  • The pilgrim advances from Al-Safa towards Al-Marwah, and when he reaches the first green flag, he must run at his maximum speed, and when he reaches the second green flag, he walks normally until he reaches Al-Marwah, and during the process of walking on him with remembrance, supplication, and reading what is available to him from the Holy Qur’an, and preparing the quest. The difference between both sciences is the actions of men, not women.
  • The pilgrim returns from Al-Marwah to Al-Safa and this is considered one circuit, then he returns from Al-Safa to Al-Marwah and this is considered another circuit.
  • The pilgrim should shorten the hair of his head, and the shortening includes all of his head, and the female pilgrim must shorten all the ends of her hair as much as the tip of a finger, and thus the pilgrims have finished the rituals of Umrah and have dissolved, and they are able to enjoy what God has permitted for them of perfume, clothing and other things.
