This dessert was distributed on this occasion in the celebration held by Umm Ali for the people of the town, and since then this dessert has been known by this name, and this dessert has been transmitted over time until it entered all Arab kitchens, and it is served on occasions and weddings. There are many ways to prepare Umm Ali, and in this article we will learn an easy way to prepare it using puff pastry dough, instead of regular dough.

  • A large can of sweetened condensed milk.
  • Sour tray.
  • Four cups of liquid milk.
  • One hundred grams of butter.
  • Three quarters of a cup of sugar.

How to prepare

  • Put the puff pastry dough on a flat surface, sprinkle with a little flour, then roll it out well using a rolling pin.
  • Cut the dough into small squares of equal size, cover a bowl of Pyrex with a little butter, and arrange the pieces of dough in a layer at the bottom of the bowl.
  • Put the pyrex bowl in the oven after heating it over a medium heat, and leave it until the dough is browned on the top and bottom side.
  • Remove the bowl from the oven, set it aside, and leave it until the dough pieces have cooled completely.
  • Put the liquid milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream, butter, vanilla and sugar in a stainless steel pot, put it on the gas, over a low heat, and stir well until the ingredients are homogeneous and boil and become of a thick and cohesive texture.
  • Remove the pot from the gas, and set it aside to cool.
  • Put a layer of roasted dough pieces in a pyrex bowl, sprinkle half of the prepared nuts over it, then place another layer of dough pieces on top of the nuts, sprinkle the remaining half of the nuts over the second dough layer, then pour the prepared sauce over the dough layers and nuts, until it covers them completely .
  • Place the pyrex dish in the oven on the grill, until the top layer is golden.
  • Remove the bowl from the oven, sprinkle with toasted coconut, and serve warm or cold as desired.
