Cooking canned grape leaves
- A box of grape leaves.
- A quarter cup of olive oil.
- Four cups of water.
- A glass of lemon juice.
- Two cubes of vegetable broth.
- Filling Ingredients:
- a cup of rice.
- Two finely chopped onions.
- Four finely chopped tomatoes.
- A cup of finely chopped parsley.
- Salt, to taste.
- Half a cup of chopped mint.
- Five tablespoons of olive oil.
- Black pepper to taste.
- Four tablespoons of lemon juice.
How to prepare
- Put a deep pot full of water on the stove, then let it come to a boil.
- Dip the grape leaves in a pot of water, leave it for half a minute, then immediately remove it from the water, and put it in a fine strainer, until it drains well from the water.
- To prepare the filling:
- Soak a cup of rice in warm water for half an hour.
- Put the rice in a medium-sized bowl, then add the onions, garlic, parsley, and mint, and stir the ingredients together until they overlap well.
- Season the rice mixture with salt and black pepper, then pour in the lemon juice and oil, and mix the ingredients again.
- Spread the grape leaves on a large wooden board, then put a tablespoon of the filling at the beginning of each leaf, fold the leaf from the right and left sides, then twist it from top to bottom, until the filling is completely covered.
- Repeat the process until the quantity runs out, then arrange the grape leaves in a large, deep saucepan, and pour the water, vegetable broth, olive oil, and lemon juice over the grape leaves.
- Raise the pot over a medium heat, then place a heavy plate on the grape leaves and leave it on the fire until the water boils on it.
- Reduce the temperature under the grape leaves after it boils, then remove the dish from it, cover it with the lid of the pot, and leave it for forty-five minutes until it is completely cooked.
- Remove the pot from the heat, then put the grape leaves in a wide bowl, and serve hot to eat.
- You can put the meat of the feathers at the bottom of the pot before placing the grape leaves, to give it a delicious flavor and taste.
