The number of rak’ahs in the Sunnah prayer before the Friday prayer

There is no tribal Sunnah for Friday prayer, so it has not been proven or reported that the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, legislated a tribal Sunnah for Friday prayer, nor was it proven or reported that any of his companions prayed a tribal Sunnah for it, just as the salaries of other prayers and the salary of the noon prayer are prayed, and it is not right for a Muslim to pray a regular prayer. The tribal noon prayer on Friday, because the Friday prayer is not a noon prayer, rather it is an independent prayer and has its own rulings and it is not correct to compare it to the noon prayer. To the mosque until the imam goes out to the worshipers or the number of rak’ahs he wants.[1]

The number of rak’ahs in the Sunnah after Friday prayer

There were two hadiths and several sayings regarding the number of rak’ahs for the following year. As for the first hadith in which it was narrated that the number of rak’ahs is two, it was narrated from Abdullah bin Omar: (The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, did not pray after Friday, until he finished, so he would pray).[2] In the second hadith, it was narrated that the number of rak’ahs is four. On the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him: (If one of you prays the Friday prayer, he should pray four after it).[3] The scholars differed on several sayings, which are:[4]

first saying

For a Muslim to pray two units of prayer after the Friday prayer, as mentioned in the hadith of Ibn Omar, may God be pleased with him.

second saying

Most of the jurists went to it, and it is to pray four rak’ahs after Friday prayer, and it is the choice of Imam Shafi’i and Hanafi.

The third saying

The Muslim has the option to pray between two or four units of prayer, as Imam Ahmad said in the book Al-Mughni:

Fourth saying

This saying lies in detail in the prayer, i.e., whoever prays the Sunnah prayer after the Friday prayer in the mosque prays it four rak’ahs, and whoever prays it at home prays it two, and this is the choice of the scholars of the Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas and the choice of Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah.

Fifth saying

The desirability of six rak’ahs, which is narrated on the authority of Ali bin Abi Talib and the group of the salaf, and the choice of Abu Yusuf, and Al-Tahawi from the Hanafi school and a narration on the authority of Imam Ahmad.

Friday prayer time

The time for Friday prayer is after the zenith, and Ibn al-Mundhir, Ibn Abd al-Barr, Ibn al-Arabi, Ibn Qudamah, al-Zayli and al-Zarkashi agreed on that.[5]
