An investment round for $ 3.5 million in tomatoes led by Wamda Capital.
The Jordanian game development platform, Tomato, has secured $ 3.5 million in financing by closing an investment round led by Wamda Capital and the participation of the Saudi Modern Electronics Company and the British company North Base Media.
Tomato stand is one of the leading and well known platform for developing games in the region. Since its founding in 2013 by Hussam Hamo in the capital, Jordan, it has been working with developers from several different countries, and in 2015 it started launching its games on different platforms.
Tomato plans to use the investment round to create a fund to invest in and acquire games and studio projects specializing in its development in the region. It also wants to expand its operations to Turkey, Southeast Asia, Latin America and Western Europe.
Fadi Ghandour, Wamda’s CEO, commented on the investment, saying: “Tomato has strengthened its presence at the forefront of the gaming market in the Middle East and North Africa, where it occupies an area that is in great demand for Arabized and culturally-related titles. The launch of its fund will provide an opportunity to develop the gaming industry in the region, as it has a place to help it build strong partnerships with developers in the region. ”
Hussam Hamo, CEO of Tomato, said: “Many startups in the Middle East believe their owners are limited because of their presence in the region. We are excited to see business owners looking beyond those limits, and proud to see a tomato team looking farther from the Arab market. And I think the latest investment round will really help us support our vision to be a leader in developing games globally.
Tomato has published more than 40 different games on smartphones for Android and iOS users.
