The world – Europe
Countries such as France and Germany recorded record daily numbers of injuries during the past week.
Most European countries have tightened their restrictions to confront the virus, including measures such as closing or requesting early closure of bars, but high infection rates now also test governments’ determination to continue to open school doors and provide medical care to those without corona.
Globally, the number of daily infections increased by more than 400,000 for the first time late Friday evening, a record increase in a single day.
Europe as a region records more daily cases of infection than India, Brazil and the United States combined.
This increase is partly explained by more tests to detect the virus compared to the number during the first wave of the pandemic.
