As usual, every year ASUS unveils a new router during its participation in the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show.
The new RT-AX68U router enables creating a VPN hotspot to your home network when you use a public Wi-Fi network.
The router supports the latest generation of Wi-Fi 6 networks and the most advanced, with operating features that allow to communicate more efficiently with many devices simultaneously, and send more data with each transmission.
A new feature that aims to make public Wi-Fi more secure is a companion app called
Instant Guard, like all VPNs, encrypts data that travels to and from your phone and routes it all through a secure server. The interesting thing is that in this case, the secure server is your home network.
As for speed and specifications, the company says that the new router can reach 861 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band, and 1802 Mbps (1.8 GB per second) on the 5 GHz band.
The device features three external antennas, four backup Ethernet LAN ports, and two USB ports for connecting printers and other peripherals.
Asus did not disclose the price of the new router or the date of its official release, but expectations indicate that its price will not exceed $ 200, according to CNET.
